Orbit (Thursday Afternoons)
A wee bit of history about one of my favourite songs.
So it actually was a Wednesday afternoon (not Thursday), when I wrote this. On a late winter day, and I was noodling with a little waltz riff on my guitar. Our dog, Rudi took off in the yard, playing with his rubber chicken. Outside it began to sprinkle in the sun shine. From my window, I watched him frolic in the misty sun. It was pretty good inspiration:
Thursday afternoons, is when I think of you
Watching the rain from my window chair
Rivulets of water flow down your skin
But soon the sun will be catching your hair
catching your hair
catching your hair
Friday late nights, is when we go dancing
Even when we don’t, we move that way
I watch as your dress catches the rhythm
I want to be part of that endless sway
endless sway
endless sway
When I follow your patterns
Each day, is never the same
You are my lovely lantern
I just orbit your flame
Orbit your flame
Orbit your flame
Saturday mornings, is just us dreaming
We don’t need to scheme or set the alarm
You are here, beneath these blankets
We are here, safe and warm
safe and warm
safe and warm
Thursday afternoons, is when I think of you
Watching the rain from my window chair
Rivulets of water flow down your skin
But soon the sun will be catching your hair
catching your hair
catching your hair
I am recording this now in the studio, it’s progressing slowly but steadily, and hope to finish it soon. The guitar part was pretty easy, but the vocals proved challenging. I ended up making small changes to the melody. Other times my voice gave out after a couple of hours. But sometimes the magic happened.
Luke (our recording engineer) and sat down the other day and added a sweet little piano part. I am really happy with how it is progressing.
Here are some clips and photos from the recording sessions:
